Pakohe Toki Necklace

$180.00

70mm High
30mm Wide
12mm Deep

Once used as a tool by tangata whenua, the toki shape is now considered to symbolise strength, courage and determination. However, this said, it’s my belief that the wearer should cast their own intentions on the taonga based on their needs. All these treasures are a source of peace, mana and connection that uplift your mauri. They are also amazing sensory tools to feel or hold in tough times. This particular piece has been carved out of NZ Pakohe pounamu (or argillite). Pakohe was pounamu used more commonly around the Nelson/Marlborough area amongst iwi. It’s a matte opaque stone and can be found in an array of colours from; greens to reds, greys and black.

All taonga I carve comes with a 100% organic cotton bag to keep it safe when not wearing.

*Note: This pounamu is authentic Aotearoa kōhatu and has been correctly sourced through acclaimed local Ōtautahi artist/carver; Jon Jeet—founder of the community initiative; Tūhono Taonga, Tūhono Tāngata. This cause helps empower and connect the local community through toi and Mātauranga Māori.
